AI Point Tracking Speeds Up Complex VFX Tracks in Mocha Pro
7 minute read
The 2026.5 release adds automatic point tracking, advanced AI matte refinement, faster cleanups, flexible exports, and Windows ARM support.
Miami, FL, U.S.A. — June 11, 2026 — Boris FX Mocha Pro, the renowned 2D/3D planar tracking and masking toolkit, launches its 2026.5 release. New precise AI-driven point tracking changes how VFX artists and compositors approach intricate organic mesh tracking and drifting-track cleanups. The robust update also delivers more detailed automated mattes, new export options to better support studio pipelines, and Windows ARM support on the Adobe plugin and standalone application.

“With this release, Point Track ML’s AI tracking joins forces with Mocha’s award-winning planar and PowerMesh trackers. This combination lets artists handle the toughest organic shots while retaining the precise control they need to deliver their highest quality work,” says John-Paul Smith, CEO, Imagineer Systems. “Furthermore, by working closely with our partners at Adobe and Microsoft, we’ve brought Mocha to Windows on ARM with full native performance on the newest hardware.”

Effortless Tracking
Mocha Pro’s PowerMesh tracking, known for capturing subtle warping in surfaces such as skin and cloth, adds Point Track ML. The potent new tracking mode uses advanced AI to analyze tracks across a sequence, unlike traditional point or planar trackers, which rely on frame-based analysis. Its model, trained to ignore occlusions, lighting, and shadows, lets artists quickly tackle previously difficult tasks such as mesh tracking on creased clothing or where hands move over the tracked surface.
Point Track ML also tracks surfaces that turn away from and back towards the camera, a behavior that was impossible even with the planar track. Three more tools round out the speedy workflow with a Refine Mode for higher-resolution analysis, editable meshes when needed, and the ability to convert PowerMesh tracks back to planar data if desired.
Additionally, the AdjustTrack module also includes Point Track ML. The module, a final-step correction tool, helps artists clean up extremely challenging tracks that repeatedly slip due to motion blur, fast movement, changing reference points, or areas that go off-screen. Previously, in these cases, users had to manually fix every adjustment point. Now, a simple workflow using the Auto Nudge tool with Point Track ML automatically detects drifting points and corrects them, ensuring surface tracks stay locked. Artists who need greater control can refine nudge position further using per-point adjustments, preview high-resolution analysis to see more detail, and use support grids to add extra points to a shot to improve accuracy.

Advanced AI Masking
Mocha Pro’s AI-driven masking tools add new functionality that further automates matte creation and refinement.
Object Brush (powered by Mask ML) automatically creates finer edge details with a new Auto ROI (Region-Of-Interest) tool. It also lets artists draw their own ROI to isolate a subject with greater precision. Refine Matte ML instantly eliminates background matte sparkles and stray artifacts with the addition of Auto ROI. Matte Assist ML features a new Search Area tool that targets small, tricky areas with close-contour generation and keyframeable fields for better control over time. The new tools reduce the time spent on the most meticulous high-end VFX tasks.

Streamlined Workflows
Multiple quality-of-life improvements deliver a smoother experience across various VFX pipelines. New flexible exports include options to export render shapes to RGBA with the source clip (or any rendered clip), export separate layer mattes to multi-layer EXR, separate layers by color channel, and turn off layer opacity keyframes on matte data when exporting to After Effects, Fusion, and Flame.
The Curve Editor, which visualizes problem areas on a track and smooths data, lets users view and modify PowerMesh keyframes per vertex, enabling faster fixes on mesh-based tracking tasks.
Additional updates include Windows ARM support for the Adobe plugin and standalone versions, as well as enhanced Python API support on PowerMesh and Matte Assist ML contour features. View product page.
