Photoshop Plugin Boris FX Optics Adds AI Masking

Miami, Florida, U.S.A — January 30, 2025 — Optics, the Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom plugin developed by the award-winning team at Boris FX, introduces AI-driven masking for still images. The mighty timesaving tool allows photographers to mask elements of photos instantly. Artists can then use the AI masks to apply or isolate Optics’ glossy Hollywood-ready presets across ten categories, including color grades, lens flares, beauty, film stocks, and particles.

Optics 2025 also debuts two easy-to-use workflows, Particle Brushes and the Looks Tab, to give digital artists greater control and customization over their final images. Additionally, the release delivers an improved photo editing experience with an updated artist-friendly user interface.

What’s New in Optics 2025

Mask ML, powered by AI, drastically speeds up masking elements in photos with machine-learning accuracy. Quickly isolate or enhance specific areas of an image with a click and add or subtract adjacent areas with additional clicks. 

Particle Illusion adds Particle Brushes, which allow photographers to paint compelling effects like fire, water, and sparkles directly onto images. Users can paint in Particle Creation or Animation modes. Three new preset categories — Brush-Animate Particles, Brush-Emit Particles, and Featured — offer creative inspiration with 250+ options.

The Looks Tab allows fast access to saved custom multi-layer filters and mask setups within the Filters window. Users can export, share, and reload Looks, delivering effortless consistency across projects. 

Updated camera compatibility allows users to work with files from the newest devices. The EXIF Library expands support for the latest digital cameras. The RAW Camera Library features broader compatibility for RAW file formats.

Ten interface improvements help streamline workflows. Enhancements include advanced workspace customization, the option to personalize filter group order, save and share favorites, full-screen mode to view edits on a larger scale, compare shortcuts to view before and after edits, extended tooltips, and more.

Optics is available as a low-cost subscription ($9/month or $99/year), perpetual license ($149), or upgrade & support plan ($49/year) on Windows and macOS platforms. A single license gives photographers access to Adobe Photoshop/Lightroom plugins and the standalone application.
