The 96th annual Academy Awards are this weekend!
It's time to meet up your friend group, fill out your ballots, grab some tasty snacks, and see who will take home the film industry's top awards.
Visual Effects
As always, this year's visual effects nominees continue to shine with mind-blowing work that leave audiences gasping and tons of meticulous invisible effects they will never even know about! Best of luck to our nominated customers on The Creator, Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol 3, Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning, Part I, and Napoleon.
Congrats to Framestore, ILM (nominated 3X!), Marvel Studios, MPC, Sony Pictures Imageworks, and Weta — and three cheers to all of our other customers (we see you!) not directly nominated but are paramount to helping make the cinematic magic happen.

We had the pleasure of interviewing first-time nominee Alexis Wajsbrot, VFX Supervisor at Framestore, and fellow VFX Supervisor Stephane Nazé about how the team — which consisted of over 800 people! — spent over 15 months on Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol 3. Get insider secrets behind the making of and find out how they used Silhouette and Mocha Pro to tackle heavy rotoscoping and paint work. Read the full story.
Film Editing
Hear from the nominees on Anatomy of a Fall, The Holdovers, Killers of the Flower Moon, Oppenheimer, and Poor Things as Art of the Cut's Steve Hullfish takes you through inspiring tales on editing processes, collaborations, challenges, and more. Read the full interviews or listen to the podcast episodes.
Best Picture
The Oscars top category offers viewers a wide variety and diverse mix of genres and stories with everything from history-making blockbusters to smaller, more quiet movies about life itself.
Five of the ten films in the Oscars top category are also nominated for film editing (see above). Geek out with editors from the rest of prestigious films in the group — American Fiction, Barbie, Past Lives, and Maestro (unfortunately, we did not speak with editors from The Zone of Interest).
The Oscars air Sunday, March 10th, at 7 pm ET/ 4pm PT, on ABC (or streaming services that carry ABC).
